HOW TO STAY MOTIVATED FOR YOUR AT-HOME WORKOUTS

Instead of pulling out all your exercise gear every time you want to get moving, it remains ready to go for your next session, causing far less friction between thinking about working out and actually getting started.

Even though we’re talking about motivation here, you should actually rely more on building habits than focusing on feeling motivated. Anyone who’s ever set a goal knows that motivation doesn’t last long. Therefore, we have to rely on the habits that set us up for success.
Sticking to a consistent workout schedule, as we mentioned earlier, is a great example of building a habit that encourages more home workouts.
Other examples of habits you can build include:
- Leaving your sneakers out by the front door, ready for you to change into when you get home from work.
- Creating a morning routine that includes a 20-minute workout before having your coffee and checking your emails.
- Using the walk to drop your kids off at school as your warm-up that triggers the motivation to do your at-home workout.
Generally, we need a cue to trigger a healthy habit so think of ways to make it easier to get up and get moving.
Sometimes, the hardest part about using our at-home gym is the fact that we’re the only ones in on it. We’re not paying for a gym membership that makes us want to make the most of it and we don’t have an instructor counting on us to show up to spin class.

You might invite a friend over to use your home gym for a weekly workout. You won’t stay on the couch if you know someone else is there to exercise as well.
